Oscar Thornton in the prolific peg 28 has landed two fish for 25lb 4oz while Daniel Lonsdale landed a decent 17lb 4oz mirror to put him into third position. Jack Carpenter in his first choice swim peg 2 has latched into a single carp for 11lb 2oz to put him into 4th place. Just as this update was being processed a flurry of activity kicked off around the lake. Join us again after 6pm for the latest update.
*** NEWSFLASH ***
The 2011 BYCAC finals got underway at midday today and it was Oscar Thornton in peg 28 who landed the first fish of the competition at 12.51pm weighing 14lb 6oz. Oscar who won his qualifier from the same swim earlier in the week wins two Nash Siren RS-1 bite alarms plus a receiver! The weather here at Brasenose 2 is very muggy and the wind has dropped considerably and the action during the first hour has been rather slow. Join us after 3pm for the first update from around the lake plus the leaderboard. Good luck to all the lads fishing and we hope that this year’s final is one to remember.
Thursday Update – 6.00 p.m.
The action on Brasenose 2 really kicked off in the late-afternoon session between 4pm and the final hooter at 6pm. Tommy Mitchell in peg 32 landed three fish to push him up into 2nd place only 6lb behind leader Steven Lloyd. Charlie Bonnet in peg 9 suffered several losses but he made the necessary changes to land a further three carp to push himself over the 50lb barrier and into third place, thus securing his passage into Friday’s final. Jack Carpenter in peg 2 hadn’t even weighed in all day but then a change of tactics saw his swim come alive in the remaining three hours of the event. Jack really got the B2 carp going on the Zigs and slop and quickly amassed a three-fish total of 45lb 5oz which saw him secure him 4th place. Lower down the leader board things started to get really competitive. In fifth place Chris Tomlinson landed a decent mirror weighing 19lb 12oz to make his position in 5th place safe while Ross Tierney in peg 14 had a quieter afternoon spell but still retained a qualifying position in 6th. The drama really unfolded in the final minutes of the event and as the results stood at 5.55pm Ben Welman and Harrison Gill occupied the final two qualifying spots. Reports came in from the marshalling team that Scott Pollock in peg 21 had hooked a fish. At that time Scott was in 9th position and needed to land the fish to gain qualification. Confirmation came through after the final hooter sounded that Scott had landed his third fish and leapfrogged Ben Welman and Harrison Gill to take 7th place. Commiserations to Harrison and the other lads who managed to get their nets wet today and missed out.
Join us tomorrow for the 12-midday start of the 2011 BYCAC final – the action promises to make this a year to remember. Good luck to all the lads fishing the final and also a big well done to all the other competitors who fished during the qualifying rounds.
Thursday Update – 3.00 p.m.
It’s all change on the leaderboard following a hectic three-hour spell after the midday update. Steven Lloyd in peg 24 landed two more carp in short succession, including the biggest carp of the championship weighing 22lb 1oz, and jumped into first position. Steven’s twenty-pounder gave him a 15lb lead over second-placed Ross Tierney. Harrison Gill in peg 12 moved into third place with 15lb 11oz and with the next seven places separated by less than 5lb it’s all to place for in the last three hours of the competition.
Thursday Update – 1.00 p.m.
The rain has arrived but spirits haven't been dampened as day four of BYCAC gets underway. Once again the event was off to a flier with Alfie Willingdale bagging himself a pair of Nash Siren RS-1 alarms plus receiver when he landed the first fish of the day from peg 7. With just 22 minutes on the clock Alfie’s carp weighed in at 10lb 8oz and a rather happy carp angler put himself straight to the top of the leader board. Catch reports then started to filter in from all around the lake and by 11am six anglers had already reported their catches. The productive early-morning session continued up to midday with Ross Tierney in peg 14 taking the advantage over the rest of the field by landing a 11lb 15oz mirror backed up with the first twenty-pounder of today’s session weighing in at 20lb 10oz! In the fancied peg 9 Charlie Bonnet landed a 14lb 5oz mirror to put him in second place with third place being occupied by Chris Tompkinson in the adjacent peg 10 who landed a 14lb 4oz mirror. As the midday updates were being processed eight anglers had made the leader board and the qualifier was set up for a decent afternoon session, albeit the rain has returned once again.
BYCAC Day Three Overview – Wednesday
A chilly Oxfordshire breeze greeted Wednesday’s BYCAC qualifiers as they arrived for the 7am draw this morning. With two quick first-fish captures during the past two days, the marshalling team were poised for more quick action on day three however they were forced to wait until 10.15am for the first confirmation of a netted fish. It was Callum Gutteridge in peg 13 who broke the deadlock with a 14lb 4oz mirror and unlucky 13 certainly turned in his favour when he discovered he was the first to catch and would be going away with a pair of Nash Siren alarms plus receiver! A change of wind direction meant that the swims that had not been so productive earlier in the competition we set to see a change of fortune. This was certainly the case for defending BYCAC champion Jake Taylor in peg 2 when he landed a PVA-bag caught 6lb 8oz mirror just after 11am, alerting everyone to his desire to be the first back-to-back BYCAC champion. By midday four anglers had made it onto the leaderboard with Callum Gutteridge out there in front with 14lb 4oz, Oscar Thornton in peg 28 with 10lb 11oz, Will Steer in peg 25 with 8lb 6oz and Jake Taylor in forth position with 6lb 8oz. Great news filtered through for the 3pm update that eight anglers had now made it onto the scoreboard, so good news that there was no cast off today! During the afternoon session Oscar Thornton, in the fancied peg 28, moved into the lead after landing his second fish for a 26lb 11oz total. Will Steer also added another fish to his score and moved up into second place after landing a 11lb 10oz fish. The only other angler to have landed two fish was Jake Taylor fishing on the back of the wind in peg 2. Unfortunately for Jake both of his fish were smaller than the average B2 size – 6lb 9oz and 6lb 8oz respectively leaving him in 7th position and still in need of another fish to guarantee qualification. Between 3rd and 8th position a real battle was developing with less than 4lb separating Jack Fordham, Jordan Tassell, Hayden Spence, Callum Gutteridge, Jake Taylor and Benedict Fowler.
As the final catch reports came in, the late-afternoon session was a good one all around the lake – Oscar Thornton more than doubled his total with more three fish bringing him up to a total of 60lb 14oz. Jake Taylor made a decisive move and his patience was rewarded with a carp of 14lb 8oz to effectively seal his progress to Friday’s final. Further down the leader board several anglers latched into fish and Benedict Taylor catapulted himself from 8th place into 3rd when he landed a 8lb 15oz fish caught on a method feeder. Callum Gutteridge (who had claimed the fastest fish prize earlier in the day) was tragically pushed down into 9th place when Callum Shepherd landed a 16lb 7oz carp (biggest of the day) from peg 3 and moved straight into 5th place. In peg 8 Elliott Morrison got himself onto the leader board with a late-afternoon capture but unfortunately he was to remain in 10th place on 10lb 8oz.
Congratulations to all of Wednesday’s qualifiers – we’ll see you again on Friday and commiserations to the lads who didn’t finish in the top 8 – thank you for making today’s event such an exciting contest.

Wednesday Update – 12 noon
It's Lucky 13 for Gutteridge
A chilly Oxfordshire breeze greeted Wednesday’s BYCAC qualifiers as they arrived for the 7am draw. It’s all to play for as we go into the afternoon session. Join us for the 3pm update - we hope that more anglers have secured automatic qualification positions.

Monday Update – 3.00 p.m.
Seven anglers have made it onto the scoreboard for the 3pm update. That means just one more angler needs to catch to avoid the dreaded cast-off. Brasenose 2 has fished well so far today with fish caught in all four of the sections. Sam Edworthy leads currently with two good doubles including the biggest fish of the day so far. Check back at 7pm for the final results of day one's action from BYCAC 2011.

Fishing from peg 15 - Ryan Dyke landed a 16lb 4oz mirror at 9.22am and won himself a pair of Nash Siren alarms plus receiver for his troubles - nice! By midday three anglers had landed a total of five fish with Ashley Bickerton in peg 27 leading the way with two fish for 22lb 6oz. Ryan Dykes' one carp held him in second place while down in peg 7, BYCAC veteran Brad Greening's solid bags had accounted for two carp for 14lb 9oz. Just as this update was received a flurry of activity kicked off around B2. Join us again for the 3pm update.

Jake Taylor Takes The Title!
What an end to the 2010 BYCAC event with Jake Taylor taking the event lead once again with less than two hours of the match remaining. Calum Kletta was still catching but Jake Taylor was catching more frequently, although he was still losing fish. 3rd placed Mark Palmer’s swim seemed to die and his chance to stay in contention was slowly fading away, The pressure was really getting to all the lads – the combination of sleep deprivation, physical exhaustion and stress was reaching a climax in the closing stages and the tension was almost unbearable. With less than an hour of the event remaining some daylight was opening up between Taylor and Kletta but disaster struck for Taylor when he lost decent sized carp that wiped out his other line. Kletta then promptly landed a carp weighing 10lb 13oz and Jake was furious with himself. He pulled himself together, continued spodding and managed to hook another carp moments before the event ending hooter sounded. Jake knew he was still in the lead by the narrowest of margins and jumped with joy straight into the lake – incidentally the fish he’d hooked fell off, but he didn’t care, he’d done it! Calum Kletta was devastated that Jake had beaten him by only 27lb and his family could do little to console him. Congratulations to all the competitors for what was an amazing final and a brilliant week for everyone involved. Thanks also go out to all the marshals, event organisers, the sponsors, and Linear Fisheries for making the event run so smoothly.
